Jane Goodall Institute Using Feature Analyst in Habitat Studies
Overwatch Geospatial recently donated a Feature Analyst license to the Jane Goodall Institute to support the group's work in Tanzania and around the globe. Specifically, the organization used Feature Analyst to map the terrain in and around the Gombe National Park for the identification of potential areas for reforestation.

JGI has been extracting land use features such as trees, houses and farms. With this information, the Institute hopes to identify areas for reforestation outside Gombe National Park. Local communities outside the park will be able to better manage their land through support provided by JGI. Reforestation efforts combined with better land management will help both people and chimpanzees in the area.

For more information on JGI's conservation efforts, read the full story on GIS Development.

How Do You Use Feature Analyst?

  • User: Nathan Jennings, American River College
  • Products: Feature Analyst
  • Application: Nathan Jennings, a professor in GIS at American River College, spends approximately 25% of his class using Feature Analyst. The software has been used in several extractions, including urban forest canopy, land cover classification and pervious/impervious specific feature extraction (buildings, houses, roads, etc.).

Jennings recently created an Urban Forest Canopy Draft layer for downtown Sacramento using Feature Analyst 4.2 for ArcGIS. Screenshots and further information regarding the urban forest canopy layer can be seen on Jennings' website.
