![]() Overwatch Geospatial in Education Overwatch Geospatial is a world-wide leader in geospatial technology and constantly pursues research and development contract opportunities with government and industry partners. As a result we are looking for higher-education partners working in the fields of remote sensing, data mining, terrestrial LIDAR, vegetation mapping, hyperspectral imaging, urban GIS and many other fields to share their application stories with us. Please take a moment to tell us what you are doing with our products and your current research interests in geospatial technology. Overwatch Geospatial and SpectrUM Partner for GIS Day Overwatch Geospatial Systems will partner with spectrUM, a local interactive science center on the University of Montana campus, to participate in GIS Day on November 19, 2008. Overwatch will join spectrUM’s Weather Bus, a field trip program providing transportation to and from the spectrUM Discovery Area. Students from C.S. Porter Middle School will learn about geocaching with The University of Montana geography department and take part in a hands-on activity provided by Overwatch to learn how GIS is involved in everyday life. ”This is our first GIS Day activity, and spectrUM is a great partner for us,” explained Marilyn Lee, marketing specialist for Overwatch Geospatial’s Visual Learning Systems operations. “They provide such a valuable service to the surrounding schools, and to take part in that for a day is very exciting.” Teachers whose classrooms participate in GIS Day will be given extension packets to aid in the incorporation of GIS in the classroom. The GIS Day activity, “GIS in Your Everyday Life”, will also be available for spectrUM attendees during public hours. More information can be found on the spectrUM site and at Overwatch VLS operations. Visit Overwatch in Nashville and Denver Overwatch will have exhibition booths at GeoINT in October and the Pecora Remote Sensing Symposium in November. Overwatch's presence at GeoINT, held in Nashville, TN, from Oct. 27-30, will reflect the event's theme of being mission focused while transitioning to the future. Through a collaboration with AAI Corporation, another Textron Systems operating unit, Overwatch will showcase software demonstrations as well as a simulated control station and UAV. Stuart Blundell, COO of Overwatch Geospatial--VLS, will also speak on Wed., Oct. 29 as part of the Emerging Technologies Track Discussions. From Nov. 17-20, you can find Overwatch at the Pecora Remote Sensing Symposium in Denver, CO. Overwatch will be located at booth 205. Workshops will be held Sunday, Nov. 16. Stuart Blundell will co-present the workshop entitled, "Hyperspectral Imagery Processing and Feature Extraction: Maximizing Geospatial Information Retrieval" from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. If you are attending these conferences, please stop by to learn more about any program in the Overwatch Geospatial product line.
